History – Shri Naina Devi Temple is one of the fifty-one Shakti Peeths, which hold immense importance in Hinduism. According to the legends, the Lord Shiva got distressed when goddess Sati self-sacrificed herself in “Yagna” and started “Taandav Nritya” (a divine dance performed by Lord Shiva. It is a source of the creation, preservation and dissolution of the universe) with the corpse of Sati in his hand. Due to the fear of the holocaust and to calm down the anger of Lord Shiva, the Lord Vishnu dismembered the corpse of sati with his “Sudarshan Chakra”. The dismembered body part of Sati fell at the 51 places in India, which is now known as Shakti Peeths. The legends believe that Shri Naina Devi Temple is located where the eyes of Sati fell down after Lord Vishnu dismembered her corpse.
